Humble Beginnings

Humble Beginnings

Growing up in a small town in North Carolina, I had my first “official” job when I was 15 years old (even though they thought I was 16). From washing dishes to cooking burgers and making milkshakes, to running the cash register and drive-through, I was the Hardee’s five-tool player.

Between that first job, and a few other stints at Food Lion and Harris Teeter, I quickly learned the value of what having a strong work ethic would mean for my life over the long term and how important it was for me to do everything I could to get ahead in life, especially coming from a family that didn’t have much. My teenage years showed me first-hand that I didn’t have a choice if I was ever going to be able to live the life I wanted for my future self.

Fast forward seven years, and many part-time jobs later (including running a furniture resale business in college) and I finally got my first break at working a “real” job while studying for my Bachelor’s of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. It was a regular Tuesday morning just like any other when I got a phone call from Josh Glover, who at the time was a Project Manager at nCino and was looking to bring in a few interns to help. I had met Josh a few weeks prior at the Live Oak Bank & nCino combined Christmas party.

I didn’t know it at the time, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me professionally. Things started to move very quickly and before I knew it, I was working in several different areas of the business, busting my tail, and pulling all-nighters to learn this platform called Salesforce. Roughly three months in I was asked by our CEO to take on a full-time position while still in college under the condition that I had to not allow work to distract me from completing my degree. Side note, taking 18 credit hours per semester while working 50-hour work weeks and traveling across the country, and helping plan a wedding is not for the faint of heart!

Three and a half years later, after having the opportunity to work closely with and learn a ton from some of the best in the business (like our amazing CEO, Natalie Waggett), I decided that I was ready for my next challenge and chose to journey out of my comfort zone into the world of management consulting. I went on from there to work for consulting firms like Accenture and Capgemini before eventually determining that product companies were the life for me, and spent some time at Salesforce and Veeva, where I was introduced to some incredibly SaaS industry leaders whom I had the opportunity to learn a great deal from.

I’ve been very fortunate and blessed throughout my career. I’ve been able to travel to some incredible places, eat amazing food, and connect with people from all different backgrounds and cultures. I didn’t know it going into that internship, but that first opportunity was what eventually led me to a full-time position and ultimately allowed me to work for and with all of the great companies and people I’ve had the chance to be involved with over the years.

My hope is that now through our launching of Ohanafy, I now have the privilege to give back and pay it forward through our first round of internships that have recently opened up. We are the only Craft Beverage Operating System built on Salesforce, the world’s #1 platform, designed to allow our customers to run their entire business from grain to glass.

At Ohanafy, we absolutely love interns, because some of “us” were interns ourselves, and we’ve seen first-hand the tremendous career opportunity and potential that exists for those who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help wherever they can.

If you’re a student who has a strong work ethic, are looking for a challenge in the world of enterprise software, and want to be part of a new company where the sky is the limit, reach out to me directly or check out our careers page to apply today!

We look forward to you joining our Ohana!
